Foot pain is caused by many, many things. Most of the time the pain present is due to abnormal motion within the feet or the body itself. Limbs can be of different lengths, muscles may be too tight, tendons and ligaments can overstretch. The foot may be moving too much or too little, or lack proper support when standing or walking, causing strains and sprains and deforming bones. Problems such as heel pain, bursitis or plantar fasciitis, as well as joint and arch pain, require a thorough examination to find the cause. Just treating the pain is not enough. It will return and sometimes get worse. Heel spurs, joint problems, tendonitis, neuritis, neuromas and ankle / foot injuries (sprains, strains and dislocations) can all be diagnosed and treated comfortably in the office.

Woman with foot painClinical examination requires the doctor to check your skin, your circulation and the motion of the joints and different parts of your feet to determine where and why your feet do not operate properly and have pain. A fluoroscope may be used to examine bone and joints. The fluoroscope is a live, real-time radiographic examination of your bones and joints. The images appear on a television screen while Dr. Smith explains the issues he discovers. If needed, a diagnostic ultrasonic examination of the bones and soft tissues will be used to pinpoint the exact areas of deformity and cause of your pain. The diagnostic ultrasound sends sound waves into your feet. These sound waves produce images of the foot, its bones and the soft tissues in the area affected.

Relief of foot pain is achieved by the use of cold laser therapy and other modalities. Cold lasers are the state of the art in pain relief today. These are very intense, focused beams of light, which are used upon the painful areas of your feet. The energy released by these intense lights relieves pain and inflammation. The treatment is painless, and you will feel the results fast. An ultrasound may be used for therapy using sound waves that penetrate to the foot to alleviate the pain and swelling you are experiencing.

Strappings of the feet are used to provide temporary support of your foot while you are healing from your painful problems. Many patients require a supportive device called an orthotic (arch support) to maintain the alignment of the foot bone and soft tissue structures and to support the feet during standing and walking after the strappings have worked. Orthotics maintain alignment of critical joints and control the abnormal motion that contributed to the problem and pain you presented for treatment. Most are custom made for your particular foot problems and foot shape. We offer many styles to fit any budget.

Hundreds of patients in our area are now pain-free and enjoying their lives again due to cold laser technology. To find out for yourself what an amazing treatment this is, please call.
