Dr. Robert Smith was one of the last pre-med students to enter a college of podiatric medicine after only three years of undergraduate work was completed at Washington and Jefferson College in Pennsylvania. Dr. Smith completed four years of podiatric medical education in Chicago, Illinois, in 1983.
After a one-year surgical residency in the Westside Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago, with an emphasis on wound care and circulation disease, Dr. Smith practiced in a large surgical podiatry group in Chicago for four years.
In 1987, Dr. Smith returned to Connecticut to offer his surgical and clinical expertise to the residents of the Bridgeport area. From 1987 through today, Dr. Smith has provided all forms of podiatric care including routine foot care, orthopedic care of the foot and ankle, corrective surgery and wound care in a gentle manner. Several thousand happy patients in our area can attest to the kindness and care shown for them by Dr. Smith and the staff.
